Hardwood Floor Care Instructions

floor care

Congratulations on having made hardwood floors a part of your decorative environment. They are one of the best investments you can ever have made because, with proper care, they can stay beautiful for a long time, and increase the value of your home.

So how do you keep your floors beautiful like the day they were installed or refinished? The information below is intended to help you. Follow these easy maintenance steps to help provide floors on which your furnishings and oriental or modern area rugs can continue to look their best.

Please find listed below specification for the maintenance of hardwood floors:

1. Keep grit off the floor by using dirt-trapping, walk off mats at all exterior doors to help prevent dirt and grit from getting on the floor, and keep doormats clean. Throw rugs inside the entrances are also helpful.

2. Put fabric-faced glides (preferably felt) on the legs of furniture. They allow furniture to be moved easily without scuffing the floor. Clean the guides regularly since grit can become embedded in them.

3. Vacuum floor regularly using a brush attachment. You may also use a dust mop daily or as needed.

4. Wipe up spills promptly with a dry cloth or paper towel. Use slightly dampened cloth for sticky spills.

5. It is good practice to keep your floor as clean as possible. When cleaning is needed, add one cup of white vinegar to one gallon of warm water. Dip in a clean cloth or sponge mop into mixture and wring nearly DRY before mopping. (NEVER leave puddles or too much water on the floor.)

6. Do not use any kind of chemicals or abrasive cleaners when mopping floor. Floor should be mopped with the vinegar and warm water mixture listed above. Never use any kind of polish such as Pledge or Endust on floor, or any other wax type cleaners.

7. Never wax a polyurethane finish floor. Once waxed the floor will have to be completely sanded down to raw wood to restore the floor.

We hope this will be helpful for you to maintain your hardwood floors. If you have any questions concerning the above specifications for the maintenance of your hardwood floors, please feel free to call us at (336) 835-6409 We carry a full line of cleaning products!
